Important Pre-Purchase Checks for Used Vehicle Buyers
1. Pre-Purchase Title & Lien Verification
Always verify the Parivahan national register before handing over payment to the seller. Ensure the vehicle is free from bank loan liens, court attachment orders, and unpaid traffic camera challans.
2. High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) Fitment
Sukher RTO will not process ownership transfer applications if the vehicle lacks an authorized aluminium HSRP plate with laser-etched PIN and color-coded fuel hologram.
3. Valid Commercial Fitness & Tax Clearance
For commercial transport vehicles (taxis, pick-up trucks, buses), all quarterly motor vehicle taxes (MV Tax) and road safety cess must be fully paid up to date before transfer.
๐ Legal Framework & Anti-Fraud Advisory
Failing to transfer RC ownership leaves the registered seller liable for third-party accident claims and traffic e-challans under Section 50 of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988. Always ensure the RTO acknowledgment slip is obtained upon file submission.
